Keeping the tradition of Carnaval alive
Anna Valentina Agnoletti
The Global Context for my Personal Project is Personal and Cultural Expression. I will explore the ways in which I discover and express my ideas and culture, along with my appreciation for the aesthetic.
My Goal
The goal of my Personal Project is to “keep the tradition of Carnaval alive in other countries”. I come from Brazil, and it is extremely normal to celebrate Carnaval in the middle to end of February for a whole week, but I did not realize that some countries do not know what it is. According to history, Carnival started in Greece as a spring festival in honor of the god of wine, Dionysus. It was then adopted by the Romans to honor the god of wine as well. Though it was brought to Brazil in 1723 by the Portuguese. Over the years the way Carnaval is celebrated changed a lot. It was only around the 1800s where it started to resemble what it looks like today.
I consider this to be a highly challenging goal since it requires me to learn many different skills to complete. I have to design a typical costume that best represents my culture, however, it is my first time designing a dress from scratch. Along with having to learn more about the history of this festival, as I only know the basics of it
